  1. Who is eligible for a Pay Equity payment?
    Employees, who were employed in a part-time capacity, between 1998 and 2012 and classified as a member of the YUSA Unit 2 bargaining unit, may be eligible for a retroactive Pay Equity payment.  
  2. I am currently an employee of York University; however, I received a Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form in the mail. Do I need to submit this form?
    Yes. If you have received a Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form in the mail, you were not initially identified as an active employee at the time the list was generated. In order to determine your eligibility, please complete and return the Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form to the address provided, at your earliest convenience.In order to determine if you are eligible to receive a pay equity payment, you must provide your Social Insurance Number and current contact information.  
  3. I am a current employee of York University. Why did I not receive a Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form? How can I determine if I am eligible?York University will be sending a letter to eligible employees who were identified as active, at the end of November 2013. This letter will include a detailed explanation of the terms of the Pay Equity adjustment calculation made between York University and YUSA, as well as a cheque for their total retroactive earnings, minus union dues and applicable deductions. Employees identified as active do not need to submit a Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form.

    All communications have been sent to the most recent address on file with York University. If you have moved, you may not have received the intended communication. There may be other factors which may have prevented you from receiving any communications. To determine your eligibility, please submit a Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form at your earliest convenience.

If you can, provide a general summary of your employment history, for example a range of years and type of work completed and/or department you worked in. If you cannot recall information regarding your employment history please leave this section blank. Please do not contact YUTA or your previous departments to provide information for this purpose, as all the information necessary to determine eligibility is held by central Human Resources.In order to determine if you are eligible to receive a pay equity payment, you must provide your Social Insurance Number and current contact information. 
  6. How do I know how much I will be paid?You will receive a written notice, by mail or email - if one was provided, within 3 months of receipt of the completed Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form. This notice will identify your eligibility for retroactive earnings. If it is determined that you are eligible for a retroactive Pay Equity payment, you will also receive a cheque for the total amount of retroactive earnings, minus union dues and applicable deductions at that time.In order to determine if you are eligible to receive a pay equity payment, you must provide your Social Insurance Number and current contact information.

When will I be paid?If you have been determined an eligible employee for a Pay Equity payment, you will receive a cheque for your total retroactive earnings, minus union dues and applicable deductions, within 3 months of York University receiving your completed Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form
  8. If it has been determined that I am ineligible for a Pay Equity payment, will I be notified?
    Yes. All individuals who submit a Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form will receive written communication within 3 months, whether they are determined to be eligible or not. 
  9. How do I receive payment?You will receive a cheque to the mailing address provided on the Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form
  10. Will I receive confirmation once my Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form is received?
    Due to a high volume of response, if you would like to be notified when your form has been received, please request confirmation of receipt in your email or mail, and include an email address where confirmation can be directed. If you would like confirmation of a form that has already been sent, please send a request to yusa2payequity@yorku.ca or call (416) 736-2100 ext. 40091. 
  11. I have received a letter regarding Pay Equity that was addressed to a recipient who does not live at my address. What should I do?
    Please mark the envelope “Return to Sender” and place it with your regular out-going mail. No additional postage is needed. 
  12. I returned my completed Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form over 3 months ago, and I have not had any response. Who can I contact?
    Please contact the Pay Equity Coordinator via email at yusa2payequity@yorku.ca or telephone at (416) 736-2100 ext. 40091 to inquire about the status of your request.
  13. Is there a deadline for submitting the Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form?
    All former and current employees have until August 20, 2015 to identify themselves and submit a Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form. Anyone who does not come forward by this date will forfeit all rights to a retroactive Pay Equity payment. Individuals who believe they may be eligible for retroactive earnings are encouraged to come forward as early as possible.  
  14. If I know of someone who may be eligible for a Pay Equity payment can I apply on their behalf?
    No. Individuals who believe they may be eligible must apply on their own behalf. If you know of anyone who may be eligible, please direct them to our website so that they may apply for a Pay Equity payment. 
  15. I believe that my deceased relative may be eligible for retroactive earnings. Is this person still eligible to receive a Pay Equity payment?
    Yes. If a deceased person is eligible for a Pay Equity payment, funds will be payable to the estate. A Pay Equity Adjustment Request Form will need to be completed by the Executor of the Estate, and accompanied by the Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee with a will. If the estate did not go through probate, the Executor is unlikely to have the certificate noted above; however, this person will need to provide other proof that he/she is the Executor.
